Net metering in Rajasthan — the complete guide

The paperwork that turns your solar plant into a ₹0 bill. Steps, documents, DISCOM rules and timelines — we handle it all for you.

Net Metering

How net metering works in Rajasthan

Net metering lets your surplus daytime solar units offset your night-time consumption — a bidirectional meter runs forward at night and backwards in the day. Most Raavi Solar customers see bills drop 80–100%.

🆕 New in 2026: Rajasthan has notified Virtual & Group Net Metering — one plant, multiple meters. RWA / apartment societies can now share a single rooftop plant's output. See the RWA guide →

The 6-step journey (we handle 5 of them)

  1. Site survey & quotation — free roof inspection, shadow analysis, written quote with brand names.
  2. Subsidy application — we register you on pmsuryaghar.gov.in and file the PM Surya Ghar application.
  3. DISCOM technical approval — load details and single-line diagram submitted to JVVNL / AVVNL / JdVVNL.
  4. Installation — panels, inverter, structure and wiring installed and tested in 2–5 days.
  5. Net meter installation — after inspection, the DISCOM installs the bidirectional meter. Rajasthan mandates this within 15 days of application.
  6. Subsidy credit (DBT) — up to ₹78,000 lands directly in your bank account, typically within 30 days of commissioning.

Documents you need

  • Aadhaar card (linked to mobile for OTP)
  • Latest electricity bill (account/consumer number)
  • Address proof (bill or Aadhaar works)
  • Bank passbook / cancelled cheque (for DBT subsidy)
  • Roof ownership proof (registry, lease or NOC)

⏱ Rajasthan is among the fastest states: net meter in ≤15 days, and the state government runs a top-up scheme along with the central subsidy — ask us about your district's combined benefit.

Frequently asked questions

No. Plants up to 5 kW connect fine on single-phase. Above 5 kW the DISCOM generally requires a 3-phase connection or upgrade — we handle the paperwork.

Surplus units are carried forward and adjusted in your next bill. Annual settlement rules vary by DISCOM — our team explains your specific tariff at the time of survey.

Typically 2–4 weeks: approval 1 week, installation 2–5 days, net meter ≤15 days, subsidy credit ~30 days after commissioning.

Yes — with a roof owner NOC and the owner's documents, tenants can install and claim the subsidy with owner consent.

We can file a retroactive net-meter application for existing installations — many plants are running on gross/generation meters unnecessarily.
